What is 'it'?

"A boy steals your health; a girl steals your looks." A girl at work told me recently, leading me to conclude I'm having a hermaphrodite.

Today's 20 week scan was all good. Again it took a long time and the scanner managed to obscure my view for most of the scan with a combination of her arm and hair.

Once she'd ascertained that we did want to know the gender she said that she'd check the sex at the end. Which meant whenever I did get a glimpse of the baby I tried to work out the sex myself.  At one point I was pretty convinced I'd seen a juicy pair of testicles. "And there are the eye sockets" she explained.

I was also fairly confident I'd spotted the belly-button until I thought through the biology, so pretty quickly stopped navel-gazing.

We saw fingers and toes and left and right ventricles. The brain was in the skull and the spine looked, well, spindly.

Eventually we did get to the money shot. We now know the gender of the womb's inhabitant.

I know it would be easy just to tell you now, but who wants easy? Let me know in the comments what you think is in there.

Here is a clue.

It is definitely one of the two main genders.

  15. 20 weeks is definitely one of the best preggo milestones. 20 weeks was when I started to feel like a normal, happy pregnant lady - instead of a hormonal fat person with depressive paranoia.

We didn't find out the sex.
I spent six months being told I was having a boy, by everyone from my husband to the bus driver to a random greek nonna passing me in the street. Not one, not ONE SINGLE person guessed girl.

    ...

    We had a girl.

  17. Girl. Don't know why. I read this post, shut my eyes, and thought: Girl!

But, either one, glad he/she has his/her bits and bobs in the right places.

  19. I'm going to go with girl as I think the extra female hormones tend to increase nausea (anecdotal evidence on my part). Plus I really want "Doug" to be a girl.

But hey, I have a 50/50% of being right.

  22. I guess boy!, and it appears that I'm in the minority! but mostly I'm hoping for a healthy Mom and baby whatever the baby's gender.

  23. I'll go with boy.

I had absolutely no morning sickness, no indigestion, no food aversions, and my only real craving was for anything sour. I consumed salad with viniagrette dressing by the bucketfull for nine months.

    I had a girl.

And I believe the whole "steals your beauty" thing as my skin was one big breakout the entire pregnancy, plus intermittent bouts of eczema and thinning hair that shed constantly. And it took nearly a year after her birth to get my skin back to normal!

  24. A girl, 100%. Because that husband of yours could do with more torment and daily manipulation in his life.

I've resisted word verification for ages but I'm getting so many spam comments at the moment that I think it is time. Sorry!
