On a serious note

This is quite a hard post to write, but it needs to be said.

First off my baby is fine, this isn’t that kind of post.

The thing is, I have been blogging for coming up to five years. In all that time I have never once had a troll. Virtually every comment has been incisive, or supportive, or funny, or all three. On the few occasions where someone has disagreed with me or questioned something, they have done it in a way that it couldn’t possible offend or upset me. (I am, of course, choosing to ignore the spam that has forced me to use captcha - sorry about that.)

Unlike the majority of the commenters who generally leave messages under YouTube videos, Daily Mail articles or on toilet walls I felt that I had a better class of reader. In a way I thought of you as friends, some I know personally, many more I don't but I still thought we had a connection.

It would be an exaggeration to say that I thought that over the years I had earned your respect, but I hoped that I'd engendered some degree of affection in you.

So it was a bit of a shock to see your responses to my question about whether you thought I was having a girl and a boy.

Most of you were making a decision based on a gut feeling, but you'd also read this post - the one where I said I thought I was having a boy.

What do I get from you lot?

70% deciding that I am having a girl.

IN DIRECT CONTRAVENTION OF WHAT I TOLD YOU MY INSTINCT WAS.

It has been a real body blow to see how little my opinion really counts.

You are right of course.

We are having a girl.

Which I am ridiculously excited about. I'd be excited if it was a boy too, but now I know she is a she it feels right.

I'm going to have to buy her a tutu and stripy tights, aren't I?

  6. Yay!!! I was exactly the same. Dreaming of boys, doing the silly little gender tests (string/chinese calendar) all of which said BOY. And we have a gorgeous baby girl!! Leg warmers and yellows with navy are all the rage over here! :)

  7. OMG this post is awesome. Congrats on the baby girl! That's wonderful. I was terrified of having a girl and well, she seems to have adjusted to me as I have to her. I thought for sure I was having a boy with her until my acupuncturist said he thought for sure I was having a girl. This time around, I'm clueless. My sister and BIL are convinced I'm having a girl because she's the only one with boys in our family. I guess we'll find out soon enough....yay for team pink! (even if I don't really believe in the whole pink/blue thing other than I would never dress a boy in pink)

  8. So, yes, stripey tights, and flowers, and hearts...but also, earplugs. Because they start talking shortly after birth, and then they don't stop until they are surly teenagers when they save it all for their friends and treat you to months of silence at a time. Well, I don't know that last part for certain, as my little talker is only 6. But the only time she is not talking is when she is playing games on the computer. Why yes, glad you asked - she does talk in her sleep.

I knew you'd need that embroidered piece of clothing that your aunt made for the wombmate's baby!

  26. Good Lord woman, you sure know how to build suspense! Totally worth it though... hooray, a girl! Tutus are a must! Tiaras optional... but highly encouraged. Congrats!

  27. Man, did you have me going there for a minute!

But I'm glad I was right. Girls are pretty awesome though. I think my favorite girly thing is to pair leg warmers, a little tutu thing and a boyish shirt/onesie.

You should still name HER Douglas, though.

  29. Having had three boys with no morning sickness and you seemingly completely the opposite convinced me yours was a girl. Simple logic.

Absolutely delighted for you in more ways than I can tell you (and just a tad jealous!)

You can apply to test stuff for me now for the Mother & Baby Awards you know;) http://surveys.nsmresearch.co.uk/NSM6519/sn6519.htm That'll be fun!

  31. Tee hee. A girl! So....my first baby was a boy. and I will admit...I really really wanted a boy so I was thrilled. I really just thought I would be a better mom to a boy! And along he came and all was great and I LOVED it. So...prego with baby# 2 and I am praying for another boy. I loved my boy, I had all the boy stuff...I was ready for a life of dirt and bugs and energy and very happy there would be NO PINK!!! Well...I got a girl. I was nervous at first...but let me just tell you. It is sooooo freaking awesome (even the pink part I can deal with)...but seriously...I love it so much more than I thought I would....and now that my son's energy level has sky rocketed to immeasurable amounts...I'm soooo glad for my sweet (yet diva-like) girl....she is my buddy. She is my soulmate....it is awesome...you will LOVE it!!!! Congratulations. I am beyond thrilled for you!
