Will You Hold My Hair Back?

On Friday, according to my calculations of embryo age at transfer plus days in the uterus, I was 6 weeks pregnant. With no symptoms to show I was getting worried.

For about the last week I’d been obsessively googling “5 weeks and 1 day pregnant no symptoms”, “5 weeks and 2 days pregnant no symptoms”, “5 weeks and 3 …”, you get the idea.

The results weren’t comforting. I’d find chat forums with those headings and the poster saying things like:

“Other than tender boobs and tiredness and a tiny bit of nausea, I don’t have any symptoms.”

What the fuck do they think the boobs, tiredness and nausea is?!

Yesterday I felt a bit queasy. But it being a Saturday and with nothing better to do than sit at home and try and imagine symptoms I couldn’t be sure if this was genuine or the equivalent of suddenly getting very itchy when someone starts talking about nits (or scabies, or crabs – the pube dwelling kind).

This morning, 6 weeks and two days pregnant, as I projectile vomited my breakfast I came to the satisfactory conclusion that maybe I am starting to get the odd pregnancy symptom.

Which makes me feel more optimistic about the heartbeat scan on Wednesday than I have felt for a good few days.

  1. congrats on your first pregnancy symptom! ...I often hear women complaining about morning sickness & think how I'd welcome it with open arms! so, erm - I dunno that I can wish you 'happy sickness' cos I'm pretty sure there's no such thing but you know what I mean - good luck with the scan, hope it's all ok! zowie x

    1. I said the same thing, I will never complain about morning sickness, I can't wait to have it, etc etc. Holy hell, yeah right. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

  2. Whoop for puke! For all it's horribleness, having symptoms can be reassuring. And don't panic if you feel fine one day either - it seems you do get the odd day off from feeling crap too x

  3. I bet you've never been so happy to puke in your life! As much as I hated being sick for 17 weeks straight, it was such a welcome reminder that I still pregnant. Hurry up, Wednesday- we need to see that heartbeat!

  4. Yay! Yay for puke!

That has to be one of the weirdest sentences I have ever written in my LIFE.

  5. Seldom have I been quite this happy to hear about someone projectile vomiting. Someone I like, anyway. This is a very good sign (and a comfort, I know). Wednesday. I bet it can't get here fast enough.

(Lime popsicles helped me through those first few weeks, though not sure how likely you are to find those. Sour, hard candies, too.)

  6. Don't worry too much about symptoms. I had practically none. I felt sick on only 2 occasions (once at about 6 weeks and then once at about 8 weeks) and that was it in the first trimester.

  7. Oh my goodness congratulations!!! I am just getting caught up on blogs. I am SO thrilled for you!!! This truly just made my day! I didn't have symptoms for most of the first trimester. A little nausea here and there, but nothing much. Mine set in the second trimester. Wishing you a very happy and healthy pregnancy!

  8. I didn't really start feeling pregnant until around 8 weeks (crushing tiredness). It was only retrospectively that I realized that the one day I was sitting at the library thinking "gosh, I feel SO BLOATED" (says someone who never gets PMS-related bloat) that that was actually an early clue.

  9. Yey! Ha ha!! Now the fun begins!

I found eating little and often helped prevent actual vomitting, just continually grazing on food basically! But nothing really eased a background nausea that haunted me through the first trimester. I was thrilled beyond belief to be pregnant after a long journey to get there but man that sickness drives you mad.....!

All the best for Wednesday x

  10. I was an obsessive symptom checker - It is such a a great sign that you are feeling sick :) Please don't panic is your sickness level is inconsistent, mine liked to come and go (just to freak me out I'm sure) I wished the nausea away on bad days and pleaded for it's return when it left me for a day or two. I guess I was pretty fickle too in the early days! ha ha!

  16. Ask and ye shall receive - isn't that how it goes? Or, more likely, be careful what you ask for, you just might get it! But I'm glad you're having a symptom...

  17. Yay for puking! Only good thing about being infertile is you actually enjoy nausea, because it means you are pregnant! Here's hoping for a great 6 week scan...

  31. First prego - no symptoms till I was about 12 weeks. Second prego - symptoms around 8w, but I think only because they put me on extra progestrone, just in case.

2nd tri I was hungry all the time (currently 21w and just had lunch and still starving).

Beat on little heart beat. Beat on.

  32. Oh and you get sick / nauseau usually do to low food (protein). High protein usually keeps it at bay, at least it did for me 2nd go round. If I didn't have eggs in the morning by lunch time I was laying on the floor feeling like the flu had hit.

  33. Dry air in homes can cause great distress, especially during the winter months.
Wow, so many of us today know what a vaporizer is and we all have a handy dandy vaporizer with
us. That's not bad for one portable heater to accomplish.
