Trigger Happy

I've just got the call. I trigger tonight for egg collection on Wednesday.

It is such a relief, I've spent most of the day convinced that the whole thing was going to be cancelled.

Although, I am still feeling less than confident about this round.  I had a scan today and was talking to the Doctor.  He cautioned me that having coasted for so long waiting for my oestrogen levels to drop that it was highly likely my egg quality wouldn't be great.

"Next time" he said "they'll probably give you a lower dose to start with."

A bit later he said, "It'll be great if we can get some to freeze, so you don't have to start from the beginning again."

Later still: "So next time, you'll be going private not NHS ..."

I really like this Doctor, but it would have been nice to feel he had a bit more faith in it working THIS time.

  1. Bloody he'll. A lesson in bedside manner needed for that one. There is virtue to honesty but come on he can't know what things are going to be like come Wednesday. Hoping it all goes well.

  2. I'm with Betty, someone needs a little lesson in bedside manner. Nothing says HOPE like "next time"... go ahead, prove him wrong. Here's hoping everything goes well this week!

  3. Seriously... way to instill hope and confidence, doc. What a jerk. I second proving him wrong. And next time can be about #2 and/or #3.

  4. Urgh, he needs to learn to think before he speaks a bit more doesn't he. Well I'm wishing you luck with this time.

  5. I really hope that he's referring to child #2. Good luck this week.

  7. Yes, I was also hoping the doctor was referring to subsequent children!

  9. It's not over until the robustly curvaceous lady sings. One step at a time. You trigger now - I'm so glad. And egg quality is a funny, funny thing. There's no telling. (Ever.)

  10. From your recent posting, it sounds like this cycle is turning out much better. Would be nice though if the doctor agreed. Sending all the luck that I have to you for now (I want it back in a few weeks though)

  11. I think I would have had to slap him if he kept saying "next time" to me! I'm hoping your ovaries prove him wrong!

  12. What a muppet of a doctor... We collectively spit on him whilst holding our hands over the ears of each of your follicles! Hope you have a good drug free day tomorrow and best of luck for Wednesday.

  13. WTF? Next time? That guy needs a smack in the head.

Glad you're getting to retrieval...however, my calculating side says if you get cancelled would that mean you get another free one on NHS? Because, you know, next time... And my conspiracy side says are these guys deliberately messing things up so you have to go private? Because, you know, next time...

Anyway, good luck. Hope the extra time means high quality, mature eggs who mesh delightfully with your husband's sperm and create enough embryos for you to have a dozen children! (if you want a dozen children)

  14. Dont necessarily take how they say something to heart...sometimes they don't hear how it sounds!!! You are going to retrieval and WILL have wonderful little eggs :) Sending those eggs strength and goodness!

  15. I'm sorry for that Liz. Maybe he just really doesn't want you to have high hopes so that when it turns out well, you'll be that much more happy, and if it doesn't, it won't be as bad???

  16. Best wishes for an awesome ER and for fabulous little eggs. Don't listen to him. They can be such negative Nellies sometimes.
    Good luck Wednesday!!

  18. You (and your doc) just don't know how this cycle is going to pan out. It has already been so different from the last one and we all know how unpredictable our bodies and responses can be.

So here's hoping that it'll all go swimmingly and that you'll produce lots of lovely ripe eggs which will marry up to make lots of lovely little plump embryos - well, enough to get you pregnant this time around with some on reserve on ice. Good luck for tomorrow!

  19. Ouch! Negativity stings.
I hope for a more positive outcome.

  20. Remember -plan pessimistically. You may just get a fantastic surprise. Hoping, hoping X

  21. Wow... your doctor kind of sounds like a doof. I'm sorry.

    Good luck tomorrow!

  22. Good luck, Liz! I will be thinking of you today, friend. :)

P.S. I just flipped your doctor the middle finger.

  23. Wasn't really sure what to say, so how about this. Forget the doctor and his negative comment, he probably didn't even realize what he said - most men don't. It's kind of their "Duh Factor". You just throw those feet in the stirrups and show them what you're made of. In a few weeks you might just have the last laugh. You know we're all sending vibes your way!

  25. Kick him in the shins...once for you and twice for me. Dude, WTH?! Don't get all caught up in his doctor speak. I sometimes think they forget there are actual patients in the room while they get lost in their antics.

I so so hope your retrieval went well. This cycle is not over by any means!!

I've resisted word verification for ages but I'm getting so many spam comments at the moment that I think it is time. Sorry!
