It can’t just be me who finds acronym-heavy posts a little … challenging. I find myself skipping posts on other blogs because, frankly, I can’t be bothered to cross-reference the plethora of letters with the acronym guide.
So I have come up with a solution. I have created my own acronyms - which I find easier to remember - that don’t necessarily change the meaning of these posts:
DH - DickHead
TTC - Tired, Tetchy & Confused
BD - Bonked Diligently
OPK - Over-Priced Kit
BBT - Barren Body's Tantrums
PCOS - Pointless Crappy Ovary Substitutes
IUI - Intimate Uncomfortable Insemination
IVF - InVasive Faffing
RE - Resident Evil
BC - Breeding Cessation
Try it with our story:
DH and I have been TTC for three and a half years. We tried everything: BD timed by OPKs, and charting my BBT, but nothing worked. A few tests showed I had PCOS. So I had three IUI's which failed, I was due to have IVF in the autumn but following some more test results the RE has put me on BC for three months.
Come on, don't tell me it doesn't make for much more entertaining reading.

LOL-Lunatic Outburst of Laughter!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteUsing your acronyms definitely creates a much better read. Glad to hear that you are going to continue to blog, I missed you when you took a break.
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm still here, hoping that I'll get to read something positive from those of us who are still on this journey. I miss writing on my blog but I think staying away has helped my sanity. We're about to do a FET. I don't hold out much hope but I'm planning on updating after the event (whether it is positive or negative). I've also started to think about adoption but that is still quite a long way off.
Yes, much more entertaining! Glad to see you're in good form - it's always good to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteIs Hand-picked Media a project of yours? Cool..
CLEVER girl!
ReplyDeleteThis is much more entertaining with the new words for the acronyms.
ReplyDeletemore entertaining and definitely more descriptive of how everything feels!
ReplyDeleteNice one Circus Princess, I was trying to think of an alternative for LOL (I spent the first few years of my internet life thinking there was a Lot Of Love out there).
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you Secret D, I'll look out for your post and best of luck. But come on, FET? I need an alternative to Frozen Embryo Transfer.
Do I get a gold star HFF?
I thank you April
Cheers Jill, it is a bit less fluffy / medicalised.
Hey Twangy, Hand picked is something I read heard about on ... ahem ... Women's Hour. So got in touch and am now on board. Not quite sure where it'll go.
FET = Feeble Effort, Traditionally?
ReplyDeleteAcronyms irritate me in general - my husband (DH, hahaha, very appropriate sometimes!) is in the military and speaks in acronyms frequently. Add silly ones (like BD - ugh) and I just want to pull my hair out. Yours are much better!
This is the best post I've read all year. Thanks for making me smile!
ReplyDeleteSpot on!
ReplyDeleteExcellent:) These make so much more sense to me. Bonked Diligently is a very exact representation of this activity. Much better than dancing that isn't dancing for a baby which is taking its own sweet time.
ReplyDeleteYou're brilliant, you!
ReplyDeleteThis one: 'PCOS - Pointless Crappy Ovary Substitutes' and this one: 'RE - Resident Evil' made me laugh out loud.
ReplyDeletetotally makes it better!
ReplyDeleteI love your better than the standard ones, super clever!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for creating such funny acronyms! I'm like you, my eyes glaze over postings that have too many and I eventually zone out, but your version catches my attention and is too hilarious! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI totally see your point, but would it really have been better to title my last post "hysterosalphingogram vs. laparoscopy"? ;)
ReplyDeleteI am also going through infertility. I have been in the battle of seven years. I have done it all....years of infertility treatments, IVF, 3 failed adoptions...and so on. It is one of the hardest things I have had to endure. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and this journey. I found you just through blog hoping.
ReplyDeleteI have just started my own blog. It is not about my journey, or how to get pregnant, or all the methods out there. It is more about "keeping the hope" for you, others, me, and just anyone. It was started after a very long emotional blog on my family blog. someone read my blog and started a facebook group called "Keeping the hope for you." It was for my friends and family to keep the hope of me while I did not have the energy to do in myself. So hence my blog...http://keepingthehope4you.blogspot.com
That is what the blog is about...helping everyone and anyone who either wants to keep the hope for them or a love one. keep our spirits up while we ride with roller coaster. I hope you stop by. I would love your comments, ideas, and thoughts.
keeping the hope for you.....Amanda
areyoukiddingme, Liking your not very feeble effort and growing up with a dad in the army I totally get what you mean - I still have nightmares about the acronym ETA.
ReplyDeleteThat is some endorsement Megan
Ta Jem
Adele, yeah the joy of the dance has somewhat diminished over time.
Why thank you Illanare
Do you mean LOL Nuts?
Cheers Jenn
I have a lot of time on my hands Kim
Happy to help, Cat Lady
Of course not, conceptionallychallenged, it is just those "its cd16 and according to my opk and cm today is 1dpo so dh and I bd-d ..." snore.
Um, Keeping The Hope, I'm sure we've all commented on someone's blog in the hope that they'll go back and see ours. But it does help if you write something that indicates you've read the post, otherwise is smacks a little of spam ...
Fabulous! Love it!
