Typography

I am a sucker for interesting typography. Naturally all I'm interested in is the way the letters are formed, the kerning, the serifs (or lack of).

What's that?

You think I'm just immature and find it amusing when the foreigns sound smutty?

As if.

Look for yourself, here are a few I've snapped over the years.

Istanbul, Turkey

Aachen, Germany

Brussels, Belgium

Today I got a belated birthday card from my work colleagues:

Orkney, Scotland

Which is nice.

  2. Great signs!
I had a funny pic of a sign but it came out a bit fuzzy. Not dirty just strange. It had the word 'Toilets' with the words 'Drinking water'underneith with a pic of someone bending over to drink (from what I guess is supposed to be a fountain but who knows). They should have used a pic with a cup instead.

  3. We used to holiday regularly near Mas D'Estebe in France. My Dad used to get really juvenile about that. And now, I get twice as juvenile. There's a Shitterton in Dorset, for example, as well as the river Piddle. And a Brown Willy in Cornwall, and a Bell End in Scotland. This gives me immense delight. And Thong in Essex! Oh God I'm so sad I'm embarrassing myself now.

  4. Bwahahaha. E
    'specially the Brussels example....
My hubby grew up on a farm, and typical of farming areas in Oz they get settled by families who stay on farms for generations, so many neighbours share a surname .... in hubby's case, the neighbours were a bunch of Kunsts ;)

  5. Thank you Meg, I take that as the highest of compliments.

Lea, they are good aren't they.

Ewww, no one needs to see that PiB

Nuts, I've got a mate who is a regional weather reporter and almost got sack for focusing on 'interestingly' named villages in the South East for her report.

Corymbia, as a surname that would be hard to live with.

I'm sure it is now ET is pregnant Xbox, but this isn't the forum for your frustrations.

  7. I love funny signs, we collect them from our travels, my favourite is still one from singapore airport, in a 1ft deep koi carp pond the sign said (in pictures which somehow made it funnier) no fishing, no swimming, no feeding the fish... like someone in the middle of an international airport was going to break out a rod and go fishing, let alone simming in 1ft of water :)

  8. Love the card. And my word fascination is usually with accidental word "funnies," spoken or written.

  9. You need to do a tour of Ireland, taking in the towns of Muff in Co Donegal, and Nobber in Co Meath.

I've resisted word verification for ages but I'm getting so many spam comments at the moment that I think it is time. Sorry!
